Crews from both the New Castle Fire Department and the Wurtemberg-Perry Fire Department responded to a call of a woman in need of help at Slippery Rock Creek in Perry Township.
The call came in around 12:30 p.m. and when crews got the the scene, they found the woman clinging to the branch of a tree in the fast moving water.
Due to the speed of the water, rescue crews decided to call in a boat from the New Castle Fire Department to be able to rescue the woman from the river.
Crews were able to bring the woman to shore and she was even able to walk up the bank before being tended to for medical treatment. She declined to have an ambulance transport her to a nearby hospital.
The individual that crews rescued claimed to have 20 years of experience kayaking. Her kayak was recovered downstream later.
