A bond hearing for a Youngstown mayoral candidate who was accused of domestic violence has been canceled after a grand jury dismissed the underlying case against him.

A court employee told 21 News that the bond hearing for John White, an independent candidate for Youngstown mayor has been canceled because a grand jury dismissed the underlying case.

White was originally charged with one felony count each of domestic violence and disrupting public services. However, court records show the grand jury returned a no bill in this case, meaning they did not find enough evidence to indict him.

White was accused of getting into an argument with a family member after becoming upset that he was ineligble to run for mayor and the family member refused to run in his place.

The family member accused White of throwing items around the house, throwing her car keys on the roof and throwing her cell phone into a ditch filled with water.

White denied that any physical violence occurred and also denied throwing the phone claiming it slipped and fell into the ditch.

Following his arrest and arraignment, White was accused of further contacting the family member despite being ordered not to.
