Five Mahoning and Shenango Valley communities are scheduled to be sites of the nationwide “No Kings" events scheduled for Saturday, June 14, to protest what organizers call a "made-for-TV display of dominance" by President Donald Trump: a military parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Army in Washington, D.C.
Organizers of "No Kings" events say they aim to reject what they say is authoritarianism, "billionaire-first politics," and the "militarization of our democracy." The local demonstrations will take place in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Mercer Counties.
Planned local "No Kings" events:
Youngstown, Ohio
The Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters (MVFF) will lead a "No Kings Day” protest.
Warren, Ohio
Good Trouble Trumbull is hosting a "No Kings" rally.
Hermitage, Pennsylvania
A "No Kings" gathering is planned.
Mercer, Pennsylvania
A "No Kings" event will take place in front of the courthouse.
Grove City, Pennsylvania
A "No Kings" rally is scheduled.
Organizers of the Grove City event reported on their website that local police were contacted by an individual who alleged that "No Kings" participants are a hate group planning to incite violence with outsiders. Police reportedly contacted organizers, who denied the claims.
The "No Kings" website urges participants to engage in nonviolent action, de-escalate confrontations, and refrain from bringing weapons.
