Izick and Ransome, two fifth graders from Paul C. Bunn Elementary School in Youngstown, will be advancing to the national Junior Solar Sprint competition.
As Team S.I.R.S the two students raced solar-powered cars of their own design and beat out their competition in the regional compeitions hosted by the National Technology Student Association (TSA) as they were graded on the speed and creativity of their design.
Now they're on their way to Nashville, Tennessee from June 27 through July 1 for the TSA conference.
The Junior Solar Sprint was formed by TSA in collaboration with the Army Educational Outreach Program to give students a free opportunity to practice "hands-on engineering skills, apply principles of science and math, and develop teamwork and problem solving capabilities."
