Former Vienna Township fiscal officer Linda McCullough is set to face trial before a judge instead of a jury on Monday on charges of tampering with records, theft in office, and telecommunication fraud. The charges stem from the alleged misappropriation of more than $116,000 in taxpayer funds.
McCullough has rejected a plea deal that included jail time, leading to the upcoming proceedings. Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Logan will preside over the trial, hearing testimony and ultimately rendering a verdict, as McCullough waived her right to a jury.
Authorities allege McCullough misappropriated $116,370.82 between August 2021 and March 2024. The indictment details numerous businesses where personal expenses were allegedly charged, including Pitt Stop Brew Thru, Rotary Corporation, Spectrum, Walmart, Home Depot, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Amazon, Buena Vista, HF Everett Gas and Oil, Partzilla, Marathon Petro, Tractor Supply, and Andrews Hardware.
The alleged misuse of funds reportedly led to layoffs of several township employees, including police officers and firefighters.
Vienna Township Trustee Phil Pegg, who has been vocal about the case, expressed frustration over McCullough's rejection of the plea deal.
