A former Akron police officer will continue to serve his 24 to 28 year sentence on child pornography charges after his case was examined by the 11th District Court of Appeals.
34 year-old Geoffrey Parker was sentenced in November of 2024 on three counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, three counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, one count of gross sexual imposition and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
Parker was accused and convicted of taking nude photos of a four year old girl in Weathersfield Township in Trumbull County and posting them to an online chatroom.
Parker had appealed his sentence arguing that consecutive sentences were disproportionate due to his lack of a criminal record, his prior military service, his genuine remorse and his wife's supporting testimony at his sentencing hearing.
During sentecing, Parker's wife asked the court to place Parker on probation so he could receive therapy.
However, the Appeals Court found this appeal to be without merit and Parker's conviction and sentence was affirmed on Monday. However, it was still sent back to the lower court.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, his case was only sent back to the local court to fix a clerical error with a new judicial entry with no re-sentencing needed.
During his initial sentencing, Parker was declared a Tier 2 sex offender and will have to register twice per year with his local sheriff's office for 25 years after his release.
Parker continues to reside at the Toledo Correctional Institution.
