Howland man found guilty of animal violations in connection with dog attack

A Howland man with a history of animal violations has been found guilty in connection with a dog attack in Warren back in May of 2025.

According to court records, 74-year-old Keith Dunbar pled no contest and was found guilty of failing to confine or reasonably control his dog. He was sentenced to one year of probation.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred back in May of 2025 when a man was walking his Shih Tzu on a leash in his yard when two pit bulls weighing between 60 and 80 pounds attacked it.

Police said one of those pit bulls bit the man on the hand and leg while another held the shih tzu in its mouth. Police said Dunbar told officers this happened because his electric fence failed.

As part of his probation, a judge ordered Dunbar and his dogs not have any contact with the victim or his dog.
