FreshRealm, a food production company, has recalled chicken fettuccine alfredo products sold nationwide at retailers including Walmart due to potential Listeria contamination. The recall follows an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes that has sickened 17 people across 13 states, leading to three deaths and one fetal loss.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the voluntary recall involving affected ready-to-eat products that were shipped to Kroger and Walmart stores.
The recalled products include:
The products bear the USDA mark of inspection with establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718.”
FSIS and public health partners are investigating the outbreak, with illnesses reported between August 2024 and May 2025. The outbreak strain of Listeria was identified in a routine sample collected by FSIS at a FreshRealm establishment in March 2025. While that specific lot was destroyed, further investigation into product ingredients has not yet pinpointed the source of contamination.
Two ill individuals’ purchase records traced contaminated chicken fettuccine alfredo products back to FreshRealm establishments. Additionally, two other ill individuals described products matching FreshRealm items found at their shopping locations.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. In pregnant women, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
Anyone who purchased these products are urged not to eat them. They should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS advises consumers to cook all meat products to a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
