With the Fourth of July coming up, the City of Girard is reminding residents of the state and local laws surrounding the use of fireworks in city limits.

Both Juneteenth and the Fourth of July, as well as the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday before and after the Fourth of July are all legal days to shoot off fireworks in Ohio.

Residents are permitted to shoot off fireworks within the hours of 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. on all of these legal days. Shooting off fireworks on any date or time other than those is prohibited.

The Girard Police and Fire Departments will be actively monitoring for compliance. Anyone caught shooting off fireworks outside of the permitted dates and hours could be subject to enforcement action such as citations and fines.

"We want our residents to enjoy the traditions of the season safely and respectfully. Please follow the law, be considerate of your neighbors and help us maintain a peaceful and safe environment," said Girard Mayor Mark Zuppo.
