Police are investigating the placement of an air freshener in a Boardman bathroom as a possible crime.

The manager of a business at Southern Boulevard and Oak Avenue called officers on Monday to investigate what’s listed on the police report as a “menacing by stalking” complaint.

Officers were told that an apple cinnamon-scented air freshener was found in a bathroom designated as "fragrance-free".

The manager didn’t know who placed the air freshener in the bathroom. Officers collected the air freshener and dispenser for processing, but no fingerprints were found.

According to the police report, the manager told officers that an alleged victim, who has a cinnamon allergy, has experienced similar issues recently, referencing an earlier incident report from 2024.

In last year’s instance, a fellow employee reportedly cooked with cinnamon, causing the spice to become airborne. Cinnamon was later found on the alleged victim's chair.

The victim in the 2024 incident, who also has a known cinnamon allergy, reported fearing retribution and was hesitant to pursue criminal charges at that time.

According to Medical News Today, some people have a cinnamon allergy and should not use it. Symptoms of cinnamon allergy include nausea, stomach pain, and hives.

Police are still investigating.
