The Youngstown City School District has announced the new name for its middle and high schools.
The new name for the consolidated Chaney and East High Schools and Chaney and East Middle Schools will be "Youngstown Unified" starting in the Fall 2026 school year.
YCSD's two-phase district reconfiguration plan will be implemented in the 2026-2027 school year. It will merge Chaney and East into Youngstown Unified High School at the current East High School Site. The unified middle school will be housed at the current East Middle School.
According to the district, Youngstown Rayen Early College High School and Rayen Early College Middle School will continue operating as they are currently with the goal to put both schools under one roof at the current Chaney High School site in Fall 2026 or 2027.
"By unifying our schools, we optimize resources and infrastructure and create a more inclusive and comprehensive educational experience for our scholars," Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor said. "Youngstown Unified will be where every scholar has access to enhanced education programs, extracurricular activities, and modern facilities."
A new mascot for the schools will be selected in the near future. A survey is available online through Monday, June 30, for the community to help decide.
