More than two years after ABC Water & Stormwater District broke ground on the Forest Lawn Stormwater Park in Boardman, a township trustee says the park has been doing its job perfectly.
The stormwater park was created at the site of Market Street Elementary School with the goal of solving the long-standing issue of flooding in the township during events of heavy rain, which the Valley has received plenty of recently.
Boardman Township Trustee Tom Costello says the stormwater retention pond at the park has been doing "exactly what it's supposed to do" and that the township has not received a single flooding complaint in that area since it was implemented.
Costello added that the park itself is coming along nicely with people already using it as a walking space. The park is expected to be fully completed in late summer or early fall.
Costello says the township hopes to hold a ribbon cutting upon the park's completion and phase two of the project will follow that. Phase two will consist of the building of a pavilion in the front of the park.
