Progress is continuing to take shape for the City of Columbiana's roudabout improvement project.
The city passed an ordinance Tuesday evening naming Howells and Baird Inc., a civil engineering and surveyor company out of Salem, to work on the project.
Columbiana will receive $1,303,780 for a project to retrofit the intersection of Main Street and Park Avenue from a traffic circle to a single-lane roundabout.
Work will include a central island, splitter islands in the approaches and new crosswalks and ramps for pedestrians.
This is part of $15 million in grant funding from ODOT's Small City Grant Program and Township Sign Grant Program to support roadway safety improvements and improved signage in several cities and townships across Ohio.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine was previously quoted saying the safety of those who travel Ohio's roadways is a top priority.
"Whether it's upgrading a major throughfare or installing better signage along a small township road, the projects we're supporting will help local governments maintain and improve the streets their citizens drive on each day," DeWine said.
City manager Lance Willard tells 21 News, the roundabout project is going according to schedule, and is still set to open in 2028.
