Brookfield Trustees and the Brookfield Youth Baseball & Softball League met on Friday to discuss adding lights to the Brookfield Township baseball fields.

According to Brookfield Trustee Daniel Suttles, no lights are currently located at the baseball fields.

Now, the Youth Baseball & Softball League requested approval from the trustees to add lights to some fields in the Brookfield Community Park, located at 7291 Stewart-Sharon Road.

According to Brookfield Youth Baseball & Softball League President Matt Lucy, the lights would be added to two fields within the park. The park currently holds five total fields.

Youth League President Lucy told 21 News that the cost to add lights to fields one and two would be $50,000 to $60,000, an amount that Lucy says the Youth League has funds set aside for.

Lucy added that he wishes to raise more money in the future to fund adding lights to the remaining three fields within the park.

According to Brookfield Trustee Shannon Devitz, the trustees will be submitting a formal resolution at its regular meeting on July 7 to officially give permission to the Youth League to make the improvements at the park.

Additionally, Trustee Devitz told 21 News that the trustees intend to look at the cost to upgrade parking lot lighting to complement the field lighting project.

Youth League President Lucy told 21 News that if approval is granted, he would like to have the project completed by fall of 2025.

Lucy told 21 News that a good amount of funding for projects like this comes from events the Youth League holds, such as the Brookfield All-Star Tournament that will be taking place between July 5 and July 16, 2025 with various teams.
