Saturday could be last day for 'Pick Your Own' strawberries at White House Fruit Farm

It's strawberry time at White House Fruit Farm in Canfield. Saturday could be the last day to pick your own.

Thousands visit the 'pick your own' strawberry field each year to bring home that fresh taste of summer by the quart.

This year's strawberry season is shorter than average, because the strawberry crops faced difficult growing conditions over the past few weeks.

"Typically you can get at least two weeks out of strawberry season," White House Fruit Farm's Kim Sisco said. "Everything on the farm is weather dependent, and so we've had some heavy rain so our season this year is just a little bit shorter."

The incoming heat wave may also affect the farm's decision to keep the 'pick your own' option open for the next week. Sisco tells 21 News the farm will likely make that decision Sunday, while the field is closed to the public.

Local strawberries, donuts, and slushies will continue to be offered in the market, while supplies last.

Sisco adds, visitors to the farm can still look forward to more events and 'pick your own' options throughout the the summer berry season, with blueberry season starting in July.

"We have pick your own blueberries as well, that's at our main market," she said. "And we do have our blueberry jam sessions there. Those are ticketed events, and they sell out."

The 'Pick Your Own' field will be open Saturday from 8:00am-4:00pm. The field is located at 8652 Leffingwell Rd. in Canfield.

Sisco encourages the community to check their social media pages for updates on the farm's decision on whether the field will be open in the coming week. You can find them here on Facebook and Instagram.

Ticketing information for future pick your own events can be found on their website here.
