Sparking transformer causes power outage in Niles

Some residents in Niles experienced a power outage late Tuesday due to a transformer malfunction.

The Niles Police Department told 21 News that reports had been received around 10 p.m. on Tuesday about a sparking transformer on Orchard Avenue.

The Niles Fire Department responded to the scene, and although there was no active fire, the incident caused a power outage.

According to Niles Electric officials, the outage affected the area of Orchard Avenue only.

Power was back on before midnight.
