A Struthers man is facing felony assault and drug possession charges after an incident Sunday in Campbell, where a woman was reportedly struck by a vehicle.

Nicholas A. Mshar, 45, was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on Tuesday following his arrest by the Campbell Police Department. He faces a second-degree felony charge of felonious assault and a first-degree misdemeanor charge of possession of drugs.

According to Campbell police, officers were sent to Tremble Avenue and 14th Street on Sunday evening to investigate a report of a pedestrian struck by an SUV.

Officers found a woman on the ground, who told them she had been in an argument with Mshar inside his vehicle. She claimed that as they attempted to exit the SUV, Mshar allegedly accelerated, and the woman was dragged and then fell, with a tire reportedly running over her foot. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of abrasions.

A witness told police they saw Mshar driving a red Hummer westbound on Tremble Avenue with the woman being dragged, yelling for help before falling.

Police said Mshar later arrived at the scene in a Hummer H3. Officers detained him and, following a K9 sniff that indicated the presence of narcotics, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Police reported finding a prescription pill bottle with a scratched-off label containing 30 Alprazolam pills in the back of the vehicle.

Court records show Mshar was scheduled for an arraignment on the drug possession charge on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing for the felonious assault charge is set for July 3.
