The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has issued an alert to Mercy County drivers planning on using Interstate 80 for the next several months beginning next week.
All lanes between the Shenango River Bridge and the Route 318 bridge will shift to accommodate construction taking place in the outside lane of eastbound traffic.
Westbound traffic will shift slightly onto the highway's shoulder freeing room for eastbound traffic to use their inside lane - allowing both directions to maintain two lanes.
The change is scheduled to start July 1 and last for several months.
PennDOT has also installed traffic safety cameras along the interstate as part of the "traffic control safety efforts."
The work is is part of the Interstate 80 Reconstruction Project which is set to make several major improvements to the highway between the Ohio state line to mile marker five.
Among efforts on the entire length of the interstate the project also includes the replacement and widening of the bridges over Route 318 in Shenango Township.
The project began in April and is set to be completed in phases through 2027.
