According to a news release, the Kent State University's Board of Trustees agreed on Wednesday to form two new schools: the School of Aeronautics and the School of Engineering, within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering.
Since 2017, enrollment for the college has soared by 134%. In fall of 2024, nearly 1,500 students were learning the craft in the program.
The College of Aeronautics and Engineering runs its operations without dependent academic units, which has become problematic. However, establishing the program into two respective schools could strengthen possiblities for students and help with increased demands in the workforce.
The release states that having these two schools "better positions the college to leverage its unique programs and opportunities to lead in in-demand fields of growing importance to the institution, region, state and nation."
Both schools will be officially established on Tuesday, July 1.
