Stericycle recognized by Warren City Council for expansion and infrastructure investment

Warren City Council on Wednesday presented Stericycle, part of WM Healthcare Solutions, with a proclamation recognizing the company’s multi-million dollar investment in the city — and its role in addressing critical infrastructure needs.

The company recently completed a 35,000-square-foot expansion of its facility on Pine Avenue SE and contributed more than $80,000 to modernize the area’s flood-prone drainage system. That investment, city leaders say, is already having an impact on nearby businesses and residents.

Mayor Doug Franklin called the company a “great corporate neighbor” and emphasized the broader benefit of their contribution.

“For their contribution to our community, being a great corporate neighbor, as well as their participation financially into our flood mitigation challenge on Pine Avenue, which abuts their property as well,” Franklin said.

He also noted that Stericycle’s involvement likely played a role in Kimberly Clark’s decision to bring operations to Warren.

“I believe it even had something to do with Kimberly Clark’s final decision to move into our community,” the mayor said. “In our early discussions with Kimberly Clark, flood mitigation — getting water off the roads — was a concern.”

Stericycle also employs more than 60 people locally and focuses on safely disposing of medical and pharmaceutical waste from across the region.

During the meeting, a company representative said, “We look forward to a continued partnership and growth in the community and the ability to continue to serve surrounding areas and states as we process and continue to grow the medical waste processing and destruction functions.”

In a written statement sent to 21 News, Facility Manager Terry Wyne added:

“We are honored to be recognized by the City of Warren for our commitment to the community. Our recent investments to expand our facility and improve water infrastructure along Pine Avenue reflect our dedication to supporting not only our local operations but also to protecting public health and the environment now and into the future.”

City leaders say Stericycle’s role in the project highlights the power of public-private partnerships and how collaboration can help move Warren forward.
