The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of more than 62,000 General Motors trucks due to a fire risk. An electrical short in the brake pressure switch could overheat, potentially leading to a fire while the vehicle is being driven or is parked.
The recall affects certain Chevrolet Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD medium-duty trucks from model years 2019 to 2024.
NHTSA said dealers will replace the problematic brake pressure switch wire harness at no cost to owners.
Owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive interim letters notifying them of the safety risk around July 28. A follow-up letter will be mailed once the repair parts are available.
