A Guatemalan man previously deported from the United States is scheduled to be arraigned July 7 in federal court on a felony charge of illegal reentry.
Francisco Gonzalez Lopez, 42, was arrested June 12 by Poland Township police during a traffic stop.
An affidavit filed by a Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent states that Gonzalez Lopez admitted to being deported in November 2017 and illegally reentering the U.S. in October 2022.
Court documents indicate Gonzalez Lopez was ordered removed from the United States by an immigration judge in March 2010, an order that was upheld on appeal. He was subsequently deported from Alexandria, Louisiana, on Nov. 15, 2017.
An Assistant Federal Public Defender represents Gonzalez Lopez. A Spanish interpreter will be provided for the proceedings.
Gonzalez Lopez is just one of many inmates being held in the Mahoning County Jail under a contract with the Department of Homeland Security’s crackdown on illegal immigration
