One puppy is in critical condition and two other dogs are dead after being discovered abandoned in Warren, according to Jason Cooke of The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project.

According to a Facebook post from Cooke, Trumbull County 911 Dispatch contacted Cooke to assist the Warren City Police Department regarding three dogs discovered in an abandoned church parking lot on Front Street in Warren.

Cooke told 21 News that two of the dogs were discovered dead and locked in their crates.

The third dog, pictured above, was discovered in critical condition. The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment.

Cooke later posted a follow-up on his Facebook on the dog that survived.

He was named "Horner" after the Warren Police Department officer that found him. According to the follow-up post, Horner is back from the animal hospital.

Cooke said during a live video on his Facebook page that Horner is staying with a foster family and is expected to be okay.

According to the post, the area where the dogs were found was a half-mile away from The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project.

According to Cooke's post, there is an open investigation into this incident.
