Youngstown State University's Fire Science program visited the Youngstown Fire Station to promote the new Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education Initiative (FESHE) approved program.
According to a news release, Chris Weaver, president of Youngstown Professional Firefighters - IAFF Local 312 and YSU Fire Science program advisory board member was among those who shared information about the program's benefits, along with program director and retired fire chief Carl DeCarlo
The new Fire Science program provides advanced education for students seeking a career in fire and emergency services.
The curriculum is built around the evolving nature of fire service incorporating traditional emergency response and modern public safety concerns.
Students will study fire behavior, building construction, occupational safety, data-informed decision making and leadership in complex environments.
The program will be accessible to working professionals currently serving in fire departments and EMS.
Decarlo says they are grateful for the opportunity to connect directly with the fire professionals who serve their community.
"This program was designed with their needs in mind, and these conversations are key to make sure they know its a flexible, accessible path to advance their careers," Decarlo said.
Weaver says he appreciated YSU's staff efforts to share information about the program.
"This is giving our members an opportunity to broaden their education in the firefighting profession," Weaver said.
