A disturbing case of suspected animal cruelty has prompted police and humane agents to seek the public's help after a dog was discovered dead, stuffed inside a suitcase, and discarded in Sharon, PA.
Sometime after June 24, a suitcase was spotted in a neighborhood in the city. When police officers opened it, they found the body of a dog inside. This led to a call to the Humane Society of Mercer County.
"We were reached out via Facebook and also Sharon [police department] through Mercer County 911 to let us know that they had responded to a situation that they were called to for a dog that was found deceased in a suitcase left on the side of the road with just regular garbage." Humane agent, Paul Tobin said.
As investigators began their search for answers, they uncovered Ring camera footage that revealed what could have happened in the days leading up to the discovery.
Nine days before June 24, a person wearing a black hoodie with a Venom face on the back was seen walking a Pitbull mix. On June 24 that same camera captured a person wearing the same hoodie in the same neighborhood, but on that night the person was not walking a dog -- they were pulling a suitcase.
Investigators suspect that the dog's body was found in the same suitcase.
Tobin believe the suspect lives close to the neighborhood.
"I would find it hard to believe that somebody drove to the neighborhood, parked their car, decided to just walk through the neighborhood and say, 'Okay, this is a good spot.' So I would think that this is somebody that definitely, definitely is from that area."
Humane agents are asking people to come forward with information.
In a statement, the Sharon Police Department said they are looking into the allegations and asked the public to contact them if anyone has information about the subject.
