YOUNGSTOWN Officers working for the Youngstown Police Department (YPD) assisted an Ohio State Highway Patrolman (OSP) in pursuit of a suspect who led OSP on a 58-minute-long car chase.

According to OSP, at around 6:57 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, an OSP officer stationed at the Akron Post went to conduct a traffic stop on a green SUV being driven by twenty-nine-year-old Javon Gage.

The tags on the vehicle Gage was driving were reported stolen.

Gage began to speed off, initiating a pursuit that would span from Hillman St. in Akron all the way into W. Midlothian Blvd. in Youngstown.

YPD got wind of the chase as it reach I-680 Southbound and decided to provide assistance over radio to make sure officers in the area were aware of the chase and to give directions as the pursuit was going on.

Both reports state that Gage ended up crashing the vehicle into another driver on W. Midlothian Blvd at around 7:55 p.m. The passengers of the other vehicle were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police had to chase Gage through a business' parking lot before having to use a taser to subdue and arrest him.

YPD's report goes on to say that after they had apprehended Gage, he still made an attempt to take over the EMT vehicle he was to be transported in.

OSP states that they will be investigating into this incident further. 21 News will follow-up on this story as more becomes available.
