The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced a resurfacing project for U.S. Route 62 in Trumbull County.

The project will span nearly 4.5 miles of U.S. Route 62 from the Hubbard city corporation limits north to the Pennsylvania State Line in Hubbard and Brookfield Townships.

In addition to resurfacing work, the project proposes the installation of an exclusive northbound left turn lane and extension of the existing southbound left turn lane at the intersection of Route 62 and Franklin Avenue in Hubbard Township.

This would provide sufficient left turn storage capacity for vehicles turning left at the intersection.

Additionally, the project proposes turning radius improvements and the installation of an area of additional pavement to facilitate left turn or U-turn movements of larger vehicles, otherwise known as a "loon" at the intersection of Route 62 and Hibler Lane.

The project is currently in its preliminary engineering phase. It's expected to cost $4,616,814 and construction is expected to begin in spring of 2026.

During the construction period, a minimum of one lane per direction will be maintained on Route 62. Intersecting side roads will be maintained using at least one 10-foot bidirectional lane.

The median will be closed for 30 days during the improvements to the Route 62 and Hibler Lane intersection. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this time.

The southbound on ramp from Brookfield Road to Route 62 will also be closed for 30 days during this time. The official detour route will utilize Chestnut Ridge Road.

Meanwhile, during the improvements at the Franklin Avenue intersection, northbound traffic on Route 62 will be reduced to one lane while two southbound lanes will be maintained.

To facilitate drainage improvements, the median portion of the Franklin Avenue intersection will be closed for two nights between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Signage will be posted accordingly.

Access to all adjacent properies, businesses and side streets will be maintained throughout the project.

ODOT is seeking any comments or concerns the public may have on this project. Any questions, comments or concerns can be sent here. You can also call Sean Carpenter at 330-786-2274 or email him at Sean.carpenter@dot.ohio.gov.

All comments received before July 31 will be considered during project development.
