A major safety improvement project on more than five miles of Interstate 80 in East Lackawannock and Lackawannock townships in Mercer County is scheduled to begin on July 14, weather permitting.
The work will be carried out in both eastbound and westbound lanes between mile markers 10 and 15, a section of roadway that sees an average of 25,000 vehicles daily.
The project will include asphalt and concrete paving patches, grooving of concrete pavement to reduce the risk of skidding, guiderail upgrades, flashing warning devices and updated road paint to enhance visibility. Construction will continue through the 2026 season.
IA Construction Corporation of Franklin, PA, was given the $2.26 million contract, which is fully funded by federal government.
During active work hours, motorists should expect temporary lane closures, traffic pattern shifts and possible delays. PennDOT encourages drivers to use extra caution, obey post signs and stay alert in work zones.
This project is part of more than 100 construction projects planned by PennDOT's Northwest Region in 2025. For a complete list, visit the 2025 Construction Book on PennDOT's website.
