A paving project on State Route 718 will begin in the cities of Sharon and Hermitage, as well as South Pymatuning Township in Mercer County July 8.

According to a news release, the $4.3 million project includes resurfacing more than six miles of roadway from Bank Place in downtown Sharon to the Ohio border in South Pymatuning.

In addition to resurfacing work, the project includes milling and paving, pedestrian improvements, updates to guiderail, roadway painting and tree trimming.

During the construction period, a two-week detour is required for the account of repairs to a retaining wall and the adjacent roadway. The detour will be posted using Clark Street, Route 3012 and Route 518.

For the rest of the project, drivers can expect to encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers and prepare for traffic delays during active work hours.

Weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed by November 2025.

The contract for the project costs $4,239,533, which will be paid with a combination of federal and state funds. The contractor is Lindy Paving, Inc. of New Gailee, PA.
