Grief counseling offered for those impacted by fatal Howland Township plane crash

HOWLAND Both Mahoning and Trumbull County leaders are working with the Western Reserve Port Authority (WRPA) to offer grief counseling for those impact by the plane crash that claimed the lives of six people in Howland Township over the weekend.

Both the Mahoning and Trumbull County Boards of Commissioners offered their condolences to everyone impacted by the crash, particularly the families of Joseph Maxin, Timothy Blake and James, John and Maria Weller.

Maxin and Blake were both scheduled to join Youngstown State University's flight school as instructors. Maxin had also previously served as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office and as the Director of Compliance for WRPA.

Through a partnership with Compass Family and Community Services and the Mahoning and Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Boards, grief counseling is being made available to employees at the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office and WRPA.

Additionally, mental health resources are also available to first responders who may have been impacted by the plane crash.

"The Mahoning and Trumbull County Commissioners remain committed to supporting our regional partners and everyone affected by this loss, and we will continue to stand with our community during this time of sorrow," reads the press release from the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners.
