CANFIELD Detectives with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office are investigating after shots were fired near a fast food restaurant in Canfield Township Tuesday night.

According to a police report from Boardman PD, Boardman Police were briefed that the Sheriff's Office received a call near the Wendy's on Route 224 in Canfield Township about a suspect a black Hyundai sedan with a red mask covering his face.

Police say the masked driver fired shots at the caller's vehicle and was heading into Boardman Township limits.

Police eventually found the suspect's vehicle near West Boulevard and Glenwood Avenue and tried to pull it over prompting a chase.

The chase was broken off at the intersection of Midlothian Boulevard and Elbertus avenue after police lost sight of the vehicle.

Major Jeff Allen with the Sheriff's Office says but nobody was hurt by the gunfire.

Detectives do have a person of interest in this case. According to a Boardman Police report, this was thanks to flock cameras capturing the license plate of the vehicle.

Sheriff Jerry Greene told 21 News that they are relatively sure this shooting was an isolated incident.
