SHARON Thousands of residents in Sharon were without power on Monday and Tuesday. 21 News has since learned that those two outages were related to two separate issues.
The first outage took place on Monday, June 30 just before noon and affected about 6,400 customers primarily in Sharon, Sharpsville and Hermitage.
A representative for Penn Power tells 21 News this outage was caused by an issue with a switch on the line feeding power to two substations.
Power was restored less than an hour later after crews temporarily reconfigured Penn Power's network to provide electricity to affected customers using nearby power lines.
About 3,000 of those same customers were once again without power just after 2 p.m. Tuesday including about 2,500 in Sharon and about 500 in Sharpsville. Power was restored around 4:30 p.m. that day.
This outage was caused by a different issue affecting a power line in Ohio and in turn affected power lines that feed electricity to a substation in Sharon.
