Boardman Township Police Lieutenant dies after battle with cancer

Boardman A Boardman Township Police Department Lieutenant has died after a years-long battle with cancer.

According to a post on Facebook by the department, Lt. John Allsopp died Wednesday morning after fighting cancer for five years. Back in 2021, Lt. Allsopp was diagnosed with stage three cancer after a parotid tumor was found in his head.

Allsopp began his time with Boardman Police back in 1999 while also serving in the United States Marine Corp.

The social media post stated that Allsopp will be remembered for his diligent work within the department and for helping keep Boardman and surrounding areas safe.

"His over 25 years of service were marked by his dedication, professionalism, and his sincere pride of being a police officer serving his community," the post read.
