Golf cart flips in Sandy Lake; 12-year-old flown to hospital

A 12-year-old boy was injured when a golf cart crashed in Mercer County.

According to State Police, another 12-year-old boy was driving the cart along Fairgrounds Road in Sandy Lake Township Tuesday night when the other 12-year-old grabbed the steering wheel, causing the cart to overturn just south of Swartz Road.

The driver jumped from the cart, which flipped onto the passenger, who was thrown into a ditch.

The passenger, a juvenile from Jackson Center, was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with possible serious injuries.

State Police have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.
