Steel Valley All-Stars capture Ohio State Championship

(CANFIELD) - The Steel Valley All Star (SVAS) 14u softball team finished in second place during the 2024 Junior League World Series, losing to the Czech Republic.  After that loss in Kirtland, Washington, they agreed to make another run in 2025.  The defending Central Region Champions returned 10 of their 11 players from 2024 and want to prove they deserve another shot in the World Series.

The Steel Valley All Stars, a combined team with players from Poland and Canfield began their journey to the 2025 title winning the Ohio State Championship on Monday with 3 shutout wins.  The SVAS from District 2 faced-off against Rock Hill from District 11 and Cuyahoga Falls from District 1.

SVAS 2 - Rock Hill 0
 
The first game against Rock Hill played out as a pitching duel with only 2 recorded hits in the game.  A leadoff walk by Mackenzie Moore and stolen base in the top of the second, followed by a ground out and wild pitch allowed Moore to cross the plate. Leading 1-0 for most of the game, it wasn't until the sixth when Sydney MacDonald hit a fly ball and reached second on an error.  A ground out advanced MacDonald to third base where she then crossed the plate following a sacrifice bunt by Harper Darney.  MacDonald threw a no-hit gem recording 15 strikeouts.
 
Ali Blinsky and Emma Boccieri had the only hits for SVAS.

SVAS 10 - Cuyahoga Falls 0
 
The SVAS bats came alive in Sunday nightcap blasting 9 hits and scoring 10 runs.  Milana Mollenkopf and Harper Darney each collected 3 hits apiece staying perfect at the plate with each hitting a triple and Darney a double.  Darney also drove in 3 runs, while Sydney MacDonald added 2 hits and 2 RBIs.  Ali Blinsky earned the mound win allowing only 3 hits while tallying 9 strikeouts.

SVAS 10 -  Rock Hill 0
 
In the Ohio State Junior League Championship game, the SVAS laced up against Rock Hill from District 11.  Sydney MacDonald threw another no-hit shutout recording 12 strikeouts allowing only 2 walks to earn the win.  The SVAS bats stayed hot blasting 14 hits with Gia Vrona and Emma Boccieri each staying perfect at the plate with 3 hits and a double apiece.  Brooklyn Kosco and MacDonald each had 2 hits including a double, and Mackenzie Moore added 2 hits.
 
With the win, the Steel Valley All Stars earned another chance to compete in the Central Region Championship in Indianapolis next week.  The defending Central Region Champions face off against Iowa on Thursday, July 17th.
