Juvenile accused of attacking police horse at Trumbull County Fair

A juvenile was arrested after sheriff's deputies say she attacked a police horse during the aftermath of a fight at the Trumbull County Fair.

According to a report from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to break up a fight at the fairgrounds involving between 15 and 20 people around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies say by the time they got there, the fight had ended and everyone was ordered to leave, but many weren't complying with some actively resisting arrest.

According to the report, one deputy was using a horse to drive the crowd out. Deputies say one of the juveniles involved with the fight swung her purse at the horse and hit it, followed by punching the horse.

The juvenile was arrested. Deputies say she continued to resist for several minutes shouting threats at deputies. She was taken to JJC on charges of assault and resisting arrest.

Trumbull County Fair Board President Barry Brown posted a statement on the fair's Facebook page saying he's going to "turn over every rock" to see what can be done to prevent situations like this from happening again.

"I refuse to tolerate and allow these juveniles or anyone else to ruin what is a fun-filled experience for so many fairgoers, 4-H members and our vendors," Brown said.

"We have some of the best law enforcement in the area, but we need to find out why their hands are so tied and why they cannot arrest these individuals. Because they are minors? Take them to JJC immedaitely. I don't care where you're putting them. Let the rest of us enjoy the experience and beautiful fairgrounds," Brown continued.

A similar situation happened at last years fair. A large fight between 40 juveniles broke out causing the fair to be shut down early. When officers were asking people to leave the fight spilled into the parking lot as some people threatened violence while others were yelling that they could see guns. Initial reports at the time indicated no arrests were made.

Sheriff Mike Wilson told 21 News on the first day of the 2025 fair that they increased security because of that fight. He said they planned to have officers at every gate until close along with the addition of a second security tower by the games. Law enforcement was also utilizing drones and officers on horses to patrol the large area.

Wilson told 21 News he had a lengthy meeting with the fair board Tuesday. It is unclear at this time what was discussed in that meeting.
