According to a news release, a new Youngstown resident has won the top prize of the Ohio lottery scratch-off ticket Special Edition Cashword.
Special Edition Cashword is a $5 ticket with a top prize of $300,000. Three top prizes remain in the game as of July 15, 2025.
The woman who won, originally from New Jersey, moved to Ohio with her fiancé at the end of 2024.
Before a trip to visit family in New Jersey, her fiancé got her five $5 scratch-offs at a gas station.
From these scratch-offs, she won $15 and held onto the winning tickets until she got back to Ohio.
According to the release, when she returned back to Ohio, the woman stopped by Certified Oil #462, located at 625 North Canfield Niles Road in Austintown and purchased three $5 Special Edition Cashwords with the winnings.
"Something told me to get three Cashwords," she said.
The three Cashwords tickets that she purchased were numbers 45, 46 and 47. Ticket 47 was the winner of the $300,000 top prize.
After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 28%, she will take home $216,000.
"It was just crazy," the woman said. She plans to use some of the winnings to go on a vacation and treat her fiancé.
