Firefighters from the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department concluded their search and rescue operations in Kerrville, Texas, and returned to Calcutta on Tuesday. The team, including K-9 Solace, had been assisting with flood recovery efforts in the area since July 10.
The Calcutta team worked alongside the Kerrville Fire Department and Police Department on search and recovery operations following floods on July 4. Reports indicated more than 107 fatalities in Kerrville.
According to a social media post from the Calcutta Fire Department, their mission concluded at 11:33 p.m. Tuesday. The department noted that while their specific mission was complete, work in Kerrville continues with the arrival of additional task forces.
The firefighters expressed gratitude for the support received from their community and for the hospitality provided by the Danner family, who hosted them during their deployment.
The department is accepting monetary donations to help offset the costs of the trip. Checks can be made payable to Calcutta Vol Fire Dept, Attention: Search and Rescue, and mailed to 15445 Pugh Rd., Calcutta, Ohio 43920. Donations can also be made via Venmo to @calcuttavfd with the memo "search and rescue trip."
