A group that has spent decades exploring local waterways is celebrating a significant milestone.

On Sunday, the Trumbull Canoe Trails Club marked its 50th anniversary at Lowellville Waterfront Park.

The group was founded back in 1975 to promote canoeing on waters around Trumbull and Mahoning County. Since then, the club has helped build a 23 mile water trail and remove old dams in parts of the Mahoning River.

21 News asked Trumbull Canoe Trails Club president Mike Danko what the goal is for the next 50 years of the group and his answer was simple.

"Just keep paddling. Keep the group together, try to grow the club as much as we can, and keep doing what we do," said Danko.

It costs $10 for a family to join the club and all excursions are within a 2 hour radius of Warren and Youngstown.

For more information on the club, contact Mike Danko at 330-766-3129 or by email at tctnewsletter@gmail.com.
