WARREN The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is seeking public assistance after rescuing 43 animals from what it described as unsanitary conditions at a property on Risher Road in Warren Tuesday.
Humane officers with the Animal Welfare League responded to a report of approximately 50 animals living in conditions so poor, AWL posted a notice on its Facebook page warning that some of the images are so disturbing, they may be difficult to view.
Officers reported finding dogs in cages stacked on top of each other three high, and living in what they described as filth. Other dogs, horses, chickens, and a small parrot were also found on the property. Three deceased puppies were discovered inside the home, according to the Animal Welfare League.
The organization says the influx of animals has strained its resources, including kennel space, finances, and staffing, the Animal Welfare League said. The facility is now caring for 86 dogs, more than 150 cats, one mouse, and one small parrot, indicating it is "well over capacity."
The Animal Welfare League is requesting monetary donations for medical care, as well as volunteers to help care for the animals. The organization also indicated needs for items from its wishlists on Amazon and Chewy.
The Trumbull County Dog Wardens and Healthy Hearts and Paws Project assisted with transporting the animals, according to the Animal Welfare League.
