Fire hydrant flushing to begin in Howland Township next week

The Trumbull County Sanitary Engineers Department will begin flushing fire hydrants in Howland Township on Monday, July 28, as part of routine system maintenance. The process is expected to continue for approximately two weeks and will cover the entire Howland Township public water system.

Hydrant flushing will take place on weekdays between 8 am and 8 pm, with crews working in and near roadways. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when driving through work zones to ensure the safety of workers.

Residents are advised that temporary water discoloration, often rusty or off-color, may occur as a result of the flushing. The Sanitary Engineers recommend water quality before using it for laundry, cooking, or bathing. If discoloration is present, residents can run their washing machine on a complete cold water cycle with no clothes to help clear the water lines. Additionally, allowing water to run through faucets and fixtures until it returns to normal is also suggested.
