A Wellsville man who was charged with what prosecutors describe as the "brutal beating" of an elderly relative has learned his fate.

According to court records, 35-year-old Michael Stacy was sentenced to an indefinite term of 13 to 18 years in prison on several felony charges including attempted murder, attempted aggravated arson, abduction and trespass in a habitation.

Once released, Stacy must register as a violent offender, as well as an arson offender.

This sentencing immediately followed a guilty plea from Stacy Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office, Stacy's charges stem from an incident back in October of 2024 when Stacy assaulted one of his relatives with a blunt object and ransacked their home.

From there, Stacy turned on the gas burners on a stove in the home and fled the scene.

The prosecution believes Stacy was attempting to kill the victim, but the victim survived despite suffering serious injuries.
