Local communities across the Mahoning and Shenango valleys are hosting National Night Out events tonight, bringing residents and law enforcement together for an evening of community building.
The annual nationwide campaign, observed on the first Tuesday in August, is designed to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and police while promoting a sense of community. Events typically feature family-friendly activities, food, and entertainment.
Several communities in Trumbull County are participating:
The Liberty Police Department is hosting its annual event from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Liberty Schools. The evening will include food and refreshments, tours of police and fire vehicles, live music, raffles, and games. Fireworks are also planned, weather permitting.
In Newton Falls, residents can attend a drug prevention-focused event starting at 5 p.m. at Newton Falls Community Park, 225 S. Center St. Hot dogs and beverages will be available, along with a bounce house, dunk tank, and other games.
Niles is holding its event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Waddell Park, open to residents, students, and businesses. The event features a K9 demonstration, a drone demonstration, music from LivePulse DJ Services, and access to the splash pad and playground.
In Mahoning County, the city of Youngstown is hosting an "Increase the Peace Community Rally" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wean Park on Phelps Street.
Across the state line in Mercer County, two communities are celebrating:
Farrell will celebrate from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Farrell Little League Field, with food, vendors, and giveaways.
In Sharon, the police department and Operation Lighthouse are partnering to present a free "Take Back our Block" event at Ruth AME Zion Church, 95 Connelly Blvd. The event runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will feature food, drinks, live music, games, and raffles.
