Protesters gathered outside the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Sunday to demonstrate against what they claim are daily Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) flights operating from the facility.
The group alleges that the flights are transporting migrants to destinations including Louisiana, Texas, and Mexico, and that the deportations are happening without due process.
An organizer, who was not identified in the provided information, emphasized the importance of local awareness regarding the alleged ICE activity.
"People are being detained. They are being held in our county jails. They're being held in our federal prisons. They're being shackled and being marched on planes here every single day," a spokesperson for the group said.
The spokesperson asserted that it is vital for residents to know that federal immigration agents may be working within the area. The airport has not commented on the allegations.
According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website, ICE's Air Operations division facilitates the transfer and removal of people via commercial and chartered flights in support of its field offices and Department of Homeland Security initiatives.
The agency states that its Air Charter Operations transports detained people who have been ordered removed from the United States to their countries of origin and also transfers detained people domestically to various ICE-managed detention facilities and staging areas.
ICE Air Operations says it stages aircraft at locations in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida.
