Annual 'Santa Run' brings mid-year holiday cheer

CORTLAND - Motorcyclists joined for a special ride in Cortland on Saturday, helping Santa bring the spirit of Christmas to children and their families all year round.
The 19th annual 'Santa Run' is a motorcycle run where drivers, who refer to themselves as the 'Bad Elves,' and Santa Claus himself drive throughout Northeastern Ohio to raise money for a place that gives holiday cheer 365 days a year.
All proceeds made from the day go towards Santa's Hideaway Hollow, located in Middlefield, Ohio.
Santa's Hideaway Hollow is a year-round Christmas retreat where terminally ill children and their families can create cherished memories. They can enter a world just like the North Pole or have the option to bring the North Pole to them.
Since its first motorcycle run, the group has raised over $100,000 for the cause.
Following the end of the run, participants gathered for a holiday-inspired meal that included ham, turkey, potatoes and green beans.
A man who would only refer to himself as Santa Claus told 21 News putting on this annual event helps the Hollow fulfill families' wishes of creating unforgettable moments.
"Everybody here is helping us put a smile on a family's face. They're helping us make these children happy," said Mr. Claus.
