More information could come this week as the investigation continues into alleged inappropriate behavior involving Ursuline High School football team members.
A mostly redacted police report indicated the alleged incident happened sometime between June 12 and June 19, 2025, during a football team trip.
According to a since-deleted Ursuline Facebook post, dozens of student athletes traveled through 11 states and visited multiple universities during the time frame when the alleged incident occurred.
In early July, the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown confirmed the school was investigating the allegations. At that time, a diocesan spokesperson said no employees were placed on leave while the review was underway.
Since then, the case has been in the hands of the Youngstown Police Department.
Two months later, police have not provided any additional details, but said the investigation is still underway.
Youngstown’s Law Department said records remain confidential under Ohio law, citing restrictions meant to protect uncharged juveniles.
Ursuline Principal Matthew Sammartino said a statement is expected to be released later this week, but declined to provide further details.
A diocesan spokesperson said police have directed school leaders not to discuss the matter publicly as the investigation is pending.
It remains unclear what happened or whether charges or disciplinary action will follow.
Once the investigation is complete, the law office said the case could be turned over to prosecutors, depending on the findings.
21 News will continue to follow the developments and provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
The Ursuline High School football season kicks off Friday, and students head back to school on Tuesday.
