YOUNGSTOWN Photo-enforced speed cameras in Youngstown school zones will be switched back on Tuesday for the 2025-2026 school year, with fines up to $150 for speeding drivers.

The Youngstown Police Department announced the school zone safety initiative will restart Aug. 26. The cameras will enforce the reduced speed limit of 20 mph during posted hours at 21 schools and will continue to be active until 6 p.m. on school days when children are present or likely to be present.

The school zones are marked with signs and flashing yellow beacons indicating the reduced speed limit.

Fines for exceeding the 20-mph limit range from $100 to $150, depending on the driver's speed. These are considered civil violations and do not result in points on a driver's license or a report to an insurance provider.

The enforcement program has seen significant reductions in speed at schools where the cameras are active, with police reporting speed reductions between 81% and 93% at participating locations.
