AUSTINTOWN An Austintown man has been arrested on two counts of felonious assault following an alleged road rage incident that terrorized two motorcyclists.

Joseph King, 65, of N. Navarre Avenue, was taken to the Mahoning County Jail on Wednesday on a warrant issued by the Austintown Police Department.

According to a police report, the alleged incident occurred on the afternoon of August 15. Two motorcyclists told police they were traveling west on Mahoning Avenue when they saw a car driven by King make an abrupt U-turn and begin following them aggressively.

The victims told police that King repeatedly drove close to their motorcycles, forcing them to swerve into a curb lane near the Giant Eagle to avoid being hit. One of the motorcyclists gave police a video taken by a witness that shows a black Honda, identified by the victims as King’s car, swerving into the curb lane.

When the motorcycles reached the curb lane of Mahoning Avenue at State Route 46, the riders claim King maneuvered his vehicle in front of them and allegedly attempted to hit them by putting his car in reverse and squealing the tires. Both men said they had to move their motorcycles to avoid being struck.

Police say they were able to identify and speak with witnesses who corroborated parts of the victims’ story.

A warrant for King’s arrest was issued earlier this week. On Wednesday, Austintown police officers located King at his home, where he was arrested.

A hearing will be scheduled in county court for King to answer the charges.
