YOUNGSTOWN - One day after a family filed a federal civil rights hazing and sexual assault lawsuit against Ursuline High School administrators, coaches and students, Cleveland Attorney Subodh Chandra said more potential alleged victims and witnesses have come forward.

Chandra is the attorney representing an Ursuline teen football player and his family, alleging sexual assault and hazing incidents during a team football trip in June 2025.

He also said that after the complaint was filed on Tuesday, a family member received what Chandra called an "angry, intimidating" message from a player's parent.

21 News has asked Ursuline Principal Matthew Sammartino and the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown for an interview and response to the allegations in the lawsuit, as well as what action is being taken by the Diocese and school administrators following the allegations.

The Diocese released a brief statement late Wednesday afternoon that said, "The Diocese of Youngstown is aware of news reports regarding a lawsuit filed by one of our former Ursuline High School families. While detailed responses will only be made through the court process, the Diocese and Ursuline High School conducted a timely investigation, cooperated with the appropriate authorities, and took immediate actions to protect Ursuline High School students. No further statements will be made regarding this matter. Bishop Bonnar prays for peace and healing for all those involved."

21 News also reached out to the Ohio High School Athletic Association to find out Ursuline's status with that association.

The OHSAA media relations rep said the OHSAA is "not involved until the case has been fully adjudicated and we see what steps have been taken by the court and the school district."

As of now, Ursuline's Friday football game remains scheduled.

Sammartino has not returned a request for comment.

An investigation is underway by the Youngstown Police Department to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
