Investigators are working to determine the cause of a two-alarm house fire that sent flames and smoke billowing into the sky over Sharon's West Hill neighborhood late Thursday.

Dispatchers received word shortly before 8:30 p.m. that a fire had broken out in a house on the 300 block of Madison Street and that the residents had evacuated.

The first fire crews on the scene reported that the flames had spread throughout the house.

Since the house is only a block from the state line, firefighters from Brookfield and other nearby communities were also dispatched to help out.

Sharon firefighters worked until 11 p.m. to put out the blaze. No injuries were reported.
